About Us

The Pine Rivers Budgerigar Society was formed in 1989 by a small group of dedicated fanciers who identified the need for a Budgerigar Club in the northern outskirts of Brisbane.

During those formative years, the club developed a reputation for the mateship that existed within the club. It was the aim of the founder (Bill Silvertand) to help nurture the new club, he always went out of his way to help anyone from juniors to the experienced breeders. These values are still evident within the club today, with young members (Juniors) being most welcome in the club.

Members and interested people attend the monthly meetings to discuss topics relating to the care and wellbeing of breeding budgerigars. Guest speakers are regularly invited to give informative presentations on topics relating to genetics, nutrition, preparing budgerigars for showing, and general topics to help new and experienced breeders maintain a healthy aviary.

Today the club has grown to be one of the most successful budgerigar clubs in South East Queensland, utilising the modern facilities at the Strathpine Community Centre for club meetings and shows. Club meetings are held on the fourth Monday of each month with its annual show held in February.
